I work with a lot of small and independent businesses, and at this time of year, when people are spending a lot online, I wanted to take a moment to highlight some of them and show my support for the small businesses out there!

Top gift ideas from independent stores

2025 has been an interesting year, and some businesses are really going though it (aren't we all!) So here's some top gift ideas from my small independent and local business clients, which I think you'll love!

OurCellar.com.au

Personally, I’ll be doing a lot of my shopping at OurCellar.com.au to stock up my wine cellar, and get the fridge filled ready for New Years Eve!

Based out of Sydney, Our Cellar offers a great range of wines, Champagne, spirits and much more. They offer Australia-wide shipping and have really competitive prices! (And I should know, I build all their emails.)

Browse the cellar for great offers on delicious drinks, and sign up to their mailing list so you don't miss a deal!

And don’t forget to support your local independent bottle shops and wineries this season! A trip to a cellar door is a great experiential gift idea (hint hint!).

Apuldram Roses (UK)

Probably not the first thing you think of when envisioning presents under the tree — especially as roses plants are not particularly easy to wrap! But gifting plants is a really thoughtful present, as they can last a lifetime and they are a much more eco-friendly gift. No plastics to break down here!

Apuldram Roses is a family-owned and run business, and they are true rose experts. If you're shopping for a Christmas gift from Apuldram Roses, you'll be buying a 'bare root rose'. That's a dormant rose ready for planting so it will bloom in the coming summer.

The other great thing about gifting roses as they come with great names, like "My Dad" and "Mum In A Million" and my personal favourite "Absolutely Fabulous". And if you're not sure which rose to pic, they also offer Gift Cards!

Terrace Outdoor Living

More plants? Well, not quite. Terrace Outdoor Living specialise in city garden design, however if you're not in a position to gift an entire garden this year, they also sell a great range of designer decor and gardening accessories which make really cute and thoughtful gifts.

Isabella Fowden

It might be a bit late to commission a bespoke piece of art, but Isabella sells prints of her incredible artwork, which look great framed in your home.

Specialising in hand-drawn intricate ink roses, her art is really special. Personally, I really like her alphabet range where you can buy the initial of your loved one drawn in roses.

Experiential gifts from independent businesses

Love.Fish Restaurant

If you’re in Sydney, book a table at love.fish on the waterfront in Barangaroo. With the most delicious, sustainable, seafood and an excellent wine list this is the best seafood restaurant in Sydney.

If you can't get a booking right now, they also offer restaurant gift cards. I recommend taking off an afternoon and spending it on a long lunch with one of their amazing seafood platters.

True Pilates Sydney Studio

If you know someone who wants to try Pilates, then this is the studio. A boutique studio practicing traditional Pilates techniques in private sessions or small classes — most classes only allow three people!

The Surry Hills studio is a peaceful and friendly space, and I promise you'll be hooked after one session.

Shop local, gift local

So there you have it, that's my recommendations for independent gifting this gift-giving season. I hope it's inspired your to consider shopping local before heading to the big names.
